Achalugo Ezekobe is no ordinary human. She is lawyer, photographer, award-winning author and biker. As a child, Achalugo was fascinated by the arts – in all its forms. Still, she studied law and the highlight was the way it taught her to think and exposed her to extra-curricular activities from which she grasped social skills that have remained an asset till date.
Having a gift is one thing, honing it is another. While writing came easily to Achalugo, she had to undergo training to better understand some of its forms. She learnt copywriting at advertising school and was taught script and stage writing by Jude Idada. For photography, she bought a professional camera during her NYSC and ended up learning to shoot professionally. While working at a law firm for about five years, she continued learning and obtaining professional certifications both in law and the arts. Eventually, she decided to resign and spend the year after giving herself totally to the arts. In that year, she understudied some film/stage directors, ended up co-producing two stage plays, produced a television show, attended a photography masterclass by Kelechi Amadi-Obi, and continued for a short while after as an intern at his studios.
For biking, the goal was singularly to beat Lagos traffic, so she trained at Prowheels Riding School in Lagos and was approved to own and operate her own motorcycle.
Achalugo is focused on living her best life. She believes that a humorless life is a bland one, that a person must learn to find joy in the littlest of things, to take their chances and to learn the lessons and move on where the chances don’t produce the anticipated results. Achalugo’s life goal is to do all that she does to the best of her ability, to live a life of love and service, at the end of which they can say she lived, laughed and loved and left no stone in her destiny unturned.
Her advice for lawyers who want to follow their passion is “learn and observe before taking the plunge but don’t sit at the bank of the river too long, at some point you have to get in to swim.”
Achalugo is a terrible dancer.
It is an irredeemable catastrophe.
You will never find a video of her dancing.
