Ifeyinwa Mogekwu is a Lawyer by day and a multi-talented Food Blogger by night. She practices as a corporate lawyer in ACAS-Law, one of the top law firms in Lagos. Ifeyinwa knew she was going to study law since she was about 10 years old, chiefly because she loved to read and was labelled a chatter box by everyone.
Her interest in cooking developed way back in secondary school. She knew she was on to something when the jollof rice she cooked during home economics class was tagged the tastiest and served to the school principal.
Following a lot of research in her spare time and years of honing her informal skills, Ifeyinwa set up Ify’s Kitchen, a platform through which she provides food consulting services and online cookery classes. Her goal is to make every woman a star in her home without any formal culinary training. Simply to enrich family lives through good food.
Due to her awesome dishes and easy to follow recipes, Ifeyinwa has gone on to become a celebrity chef, participating in several cooking competitions both on social media and television.
Ifeyinwa says that unfortunately there is no connection between food and law. Food requires a lot of creativity and the opportunity to explore as there are no set rules per se. With law however, your creativity and ability to go on a whim is limited as there are set rules that you must follow.
On how she is able to manage her life as a Lawyer and Food Blogger, Ifeyinwa says it is pretty difficult as she has no spare time. But she fiercely enjoys what she does and will have it no other way.
If she is ever able to get some free time, her idea of relaxing would be sitting in her living room under dim lights with scented candles, watching a movie.
Her advice for anyone who wants to follow their passion is “start from where you are, with what you have and you will definitely grow. Never say you don’t have time, there is always time. Give up your sleep, your weekends and your parties and pursue your dreams.”
