Akinyemi Ayinoluwa – Entertainment Lawyer

Akinyemi Ayinoluwa is a Lawyer and a man of many parts. A quick look at his social media accounts will reveal his love for the creative industry, entrepreneurship, music, film and sports

Prior to qualifying as a Lawyer and while a law student at the University of Lagos, Akinyemi was a songwriter and a recording artiste. However, upon qualifying as a Lawyer, his dreams of being the next R-Kelly took a back seat. He was however convinced that he would still work in the creative industry as a Lawyer passionate about what creative professionals do and their importance to society.

Akinyemi’s core area of expertise is Intellectual Property Law. But he has  had the privilege of garnering more experience, reputation and expertise in Entertainment Law which is a sub-sect of Intellectual Property Law.

Beyond his law degree, Akinyemi is a director in GreySage Consulting. A boutique company that provides advisory services to businesses, entrepreneurs and practitioners in the creative industry. He also does a lot of advocacy work for the creative industry on Radio and Television.

Akinyemi loves being a Lawyer as he gets to play the role of a problem- solver. Also, under his direction, creative people can have a more prosperous life, business and career.

On why Lawyers, seem to be leaving the law and pursuing other careers, Akinyemi says this is the case because other industries appear to be more rewarding. New opportunities spring up everyday and some of the best minds in the legal profession might find these opportunities alluring and as such opt for same.

When he is not working as a Lawyer, he loves to read, have great conversations, meet new people, drink wine and dance.

Akinyemi’s advice for Lawyers who would like to follow their passion but still build a legal career is – “Identify what gives you the most satisfaction. Study hard to get better at it. Give yourself time to grow. Find a role model. Read all you can find on your subject of interest. Be remarkable. Build your identity. Surround yourself with good people. Believe in your abilities and know your weaknesses.”
